The Edge of Land and Sun
Through my latest work, I seek to expand our environmental ethic, acknowledging the intrinsic value of native species and their contributions to our communities, ecosystems, and collective well-being. Drawing inspiration from the use of gold in medieval art to symbolize the divine to represent what cannot be seen by human eyes, and that which is sacred, my series explores organic life—embracing the inherent sanctity of the human body, the animal kingdom, and the flourishing realm of plants. While ancient art often focused on anthropocentric (human-centered) divinity, my work unveils the sacred essence inherent in all life forms of our environment. Watching the light throughout the day shift the gold hues in each composition serves as an invitation to reconnect with the animate beauty that surrounds us. Inviting viewers to contemplate the profound aliveness, interconnectedness, and the immanent value of all living beings in the natural world. The gold in these artworks is from repurposed candy wrappers.
